Climate and Culture

  • Lead with love. Ensure equity and consistency with staff and students. I have always kept it in my mind to treat others as I would have my mother, (pictured below) who taught for 47 years to be treated. Also pictured is a former pastor at Stockman Church, Jim Powell. When he first met us, he said, "I may not know each of you today, but I love you and I'm praying God's blessings to each of you." While at Garrison, we had the "Goody Table" once a month and had treats and desserts for teachers in the workroom.
  • Communicate. Working as a district team to provide information in a timely manner to staff and community. Social Media is a great tool to achieve this to parents and our student body. Aside from appraisals and walkthroughs, a principal finding time to get to know their teachers and their personal lives promotes a positive working environment.
  • Transparent. As we prepare for textbooks, technology, etc., it is best to include shareholders in our thought process and decisions. A principal should also strive to be visible throughout the school day and at an array of extracurricular events.
  • Lend a hand. Whenever, whatever, a principal is there for any task when someone is in need.
